Beverly Bowden Pickard was born in Memphis, Tennessee, where she began studying art as a child. As a young adult, she spent summers at the Burnsville Painting Classes in Burnsville, North Carolina. She attended Rhodes College in Memphis and later received her BA in art from the University of South Carolina. She taught art for many years before she returned to school and earned a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She joined the faculty at Mercer University School of Medicine, where she worked as a marriage and family therapist and taught communication skills for 19 years. She retired early to paint full time. A member of Oil Painters of America, Beverly is primarily an oil painter. She also enjoys other media and paints oil portraits by commission.
Beverly and her husband, Carey, divide their time between Macon, Georgia and Saluda, North Carolina. The Pickard family includes five children and seven grandchildren.
