 Midway Connie
After another 14 1/2 hour barrier flight to the Aleutian chain, "Checkpool 24" returns to Midway Island. The pacific barrier squadron operated 33 EC121Ks and 3 C121s out of Barbers Point, Oahu, Hawaii, to provide radar early warning from the Aleutian ADIZ to Midway. Flight and CIC crews flew eight 2840 mile flights from Midway to Midway during eighteen-day deployments each month. The original oil painting is part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida. Click on the image to enlarge it and view purchase options.
